It only takes one session learning the art of pottery under the guidance of Sia to come to the realization that she is a light and a treasure. Over the years Sia has ignited a love of this ancient craft in me, as well as in my teenage son, who went from a beginner in her wheel throwing class to now having his own pottery pop up shop.

In addition to bringing with her a deeply rooted living education in Ceramics, Sia also has a rare and intentional way of cultivating beauty through her ability to slow down and experience wonder and appreciation for the lovely details in life and pottery that can often be overlooked. Radiating a relaxed and joyful spirit, her patient direction moves with the flow and pace of each individual student, sprouting a camaraderie of encouragement amongst those in the studio and a well-rounded understanding of this beautiful art.

I came to Sia’s class hoping to reproduce my own version of a few items I had seen online by handbuilding. I didn’t even think I would try the wheel. But I was curious! I watched her demonstration of wheel-throwing and decided to try it. I was actually a little shocked that with her instruction, I created something attractive on the first try! I had taken a community education pottery class during my college years and came home with a few homely pieces. Working with Sia was so much easier—she gave clear instructions, personal attention, and knows her craft so well that she answered all my questions. She also foresaw problems that beginners often have so that she could warn us how to avoid them, and we could get good results. I enjoyed working with her so much. She is so kind and welcoming. She knows not only throwing but so much about finishing and glazing. She was able to help me with questions and help me get good results—I was so happy with the pieces I created in her class. It was really gratifying to create something I am proud to use in my home, and just meeting for the class every time was so refreshing and enjoyable! I felt really well supported in trying something new!

I have known Sia for many years in other worlds and always admired her art. I was so excited when she offered an adult pottery class. She is an artist in her life and in ceramics and has a knack for making everything beautiful. I hadn’t done any pottery in over 20 years and she instantly made me comfortable in my exploration during class. She is gentle with her feedback but always knows when to offer her wisdom. She has an intuitive teaching sense where she knows when to let us struggle through on our own and when to jump in and help save the pot! She honors the process and offers years of dedication and training to her students. She is an amazing teacher and would highly recommend her ceramics classes.
